A Review of The Island Escape by Kerry Fisher - Four *

A Review of The Island Escape by Kerry Fisher - Four *

Blurb:

Can one woman’s marriage survive her best friend’s divorce? Fans of Veronica Henry and Erica James, this is the next book to add to your reading list.

It’s time to get back to where it all began…

Octavia Sheldon thought she’d have a different life. One where she travelled the world with an exotic husband and free-spirited children in tow. But things didn’t turn out quite like that.
Married to safe, reliable Jonathan, her life now consists of packed lunches, school runs and more loads of dirty washing than she ever thought possible. She’s not unhappy. It’s just that she can barely recognise herself any longer.

So as Octavia watches her best friend’s marriage break up, it starts her thinking. What if life could be different? What if she could escape and get back to the person she used to be? Escape back to the island where she spent her summers? And what if the man she used to love was there waiting for her…?

Review:

A story of what is, what was and what might be....

The opening line grabs you and you are hooked until the last word.

The blurb is a little misleading. This is the story of Octavia AND her friend Roberta, of marriage, of might-have-beens and children. The chapters alternate between the two women and this is a great method of seeing the same things from two different perspectives.

I loved both women for different reasons. Roberta for breaking away from a bully and then building herself up again. And Octavia for not being a product of her name and her indecisiveness. She is torn between her husband and 3 children and the life she knows, but hates - and her previous love in Corsica.

How all the different threads tie in together is really well done. At one stage it seems impossible that either women could have their happiness. And that lasts to almost the end of the book.

I love that I am reading new authors through my Kindle and Kerry is one I will look out for again.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
