Review of Porn Money and Wannabe Mummy by Laura Barnard - Four **

Blurb:

What is it about turning thirty that sends rational women into a tailspin?

Suddenly going from having all the time in the world, to cringing at the ticking of her biological clock, Poppy is drowning under the strain of trying to get pregnant.

With a dad in the throes of a mid-life crisis, a crazy mother-in-law and time racing towards Lilly's wedding, will she be able to cope with it all...and give Ryan the baby they so desperately want?

Finally able to inherit her dad's porn money, Jazz can't wait to be rich! She can buy a house in Chelsea, go out partying with her old mates and start living how she deserves.

But with Ollie, Jemima and Meryl each clawing at their own little piece of her happiness, will she have to leave behind those closest to her in exchange for it?

The real question is, can Poppy and Jazz rescue their own lives before everything gets ruined, or will their own stubbornness destroy the lives they've created.

Review:

I haven't read the first 2 books in the series, so wondered if I'd be a bit lost. But it really is fine as a stand alone book. And it is very, very funny!

The situations Poppy finds herself in are sometimes hysterical and sometimes very, very sad. There are plenty of skeletons in everyone's closets and they have a habit of jumping out when you least expect it - and more than one can jump out at the same time!

I loved the way the chapters alternated with Poppy and Jazz.

Being an only child with deceased parents, my family circle is very small so I take particular pleasure in reading books with large families in them - and this lot are all so very different!

I really enjoyed the way Laura could turn a very serious situation into a funny one in one paragraph - and vice versa. The tree in the garden was a prime example of this. What seemed very funny, if a little scary, suddenly became very serious indeed!

Loved it and I hope to read the first two now - even though I know what happens. Following the paths of Poppy and Jazz will be adventurous!
